Denon DVD-1910 DVD Player

When I started looking for a DVD player for my home entertainment system, I thought about Denon first. I had one before and really liked it. Since I was not looking to pay top dollar on it, I just wanted to get a great machine for a good price. That’s when I came across the Denon DVD-1910.

This unit claims that it is capable of producing an interpolated DVI output of 1080i which is compatible with HDTV’s. This I really wanted to see because other machines make similar claims, but only a few of them really measure up. Their claim is that because of scaling technology, it should be able to give HD quality, but it is not a real HD signal. A DVD is normally 480i, so it must scale up the picture to come up to either the 720i, or the 1080i level. The only drawback here is that your HDTV must have either a DVI, or a HDMI port in order for this feature to work.

When I turned it on, I was rather skeptical about its quality. Before I went to look at it, though, I did read some other reviews, and found that others basically said it was good, so I took the chance and brought it home. After I tested the picture for a while, by using different videos for different scenes, I realized I had made a good decision. Where a lot of other machines fail is in the quality of black. This determines just how clear your picture really is, and if not a deep enough black, it means that you end up with distortions here and there. After fine-tuning the Black Level Settings a little bit, I saw that it really did give me an excellent picture. Besides having a good quality of black, the picture is further enhanced by using dual 54Mhz video DAC processors that end up giving you a really nice sharp and clear picture with minimum distortion.

Another feature I was happy with, is that the Denon DVD-1910 has a wider variety of disks that can be put into it. It can play just about anything. Since I have a nice collection of disks in a wide range of formats, this attracted me to it. It can take the usual DVD-R, DVD-RW, audio CD’s, CD-R, and the CD-RW’s, and a few other types of discs you’ve burned: audio, MP3, WMA or even digital (JPEG) photos. It even has a 2 Mb Buffer Memory which will allow you to play the new dual layer DVD’s, too.

I also found that there is one other thing I liked. Some of these machines focus on only one or two aspects. But, it seems, on this one that they did well on just about everything. Even the sound was good, and this is because they used Burr Brown technology to produce a depth and fullness that you just have to hear for yourself.

Overall, I am impressed with this machine the Denon DVD-1910. I think that this machine is what makes a home theater worthwhile especially mine.
