Philips Pronto TSU3000 Remote

Everything else had been set-up my home theater center was ready, but keeping track of all those remotes was more than a pain, with my two kids, and a dog. Everything else worked great, but I needed a way to put it all into one remote.

After looking at a number of them, and reading the reviews, I settled on the Philips Pronto TSU3000, because I wanted to really be able to tweak it my way. This unit looks like a PDA, and I read that it could be programmed into just about an infinite number of ways. Since I’m a little technical minded, and patient, I thought I’m up to the challenge. Sure enough, after I hooked it up to the computer with a USB cable, I found that it took me a couple of hours to get it to where I could do the basics. In the reviews, though, I saw where I could download much of what I needed from the Internet. Thanks to some guys who did this before me, there really was a lot of stuff out there just waiting, and it really helped.

The programming allowed me to make some macro buttons which made it easier for my wife and kids (who aren’t computer savvy). Although it has an LCD touch screen, it also has the standard channel-changing and volume buttons of a regular remote. While I was setting it up, I also noticed that the background lighting changed according to where I was  it was brightest in the dark.

Another nice little feature is that it worked for all my electronic equipment. Sometimes that is a real problem. It had a good range, too  about 33 feet.

Anyway, I really liked this unit. It definitely got tuned the way I like it, and I make a few more adjustments every now and then, as I think of new things to add.
