110″ 16:9 Stewart StudioTek 130 screen

When I first got my Barco 808S projector I constructed a DIY blackout cloth screen and I used it for several years. The blackout cloth screen was remarkably good and for the price I had few complaints. As time went on though and I started reading more and more about screens and I was wondering how much image quality I was missing out on. I did a heck of a lot of research and the more I read the more positive things I read about the StuidoTek 130. In fact I had a hard time finding anything negative about this screen. It was a bit more expensive than some of it’s competitors but I figured it was worth the extra cost and as long as nothing silly happened to the screen it would last me a lifetime so I went ahead and got one.

I purchased a 110″ StudioTek 130 in a 16:9 aspect ratio. I also purchased Stewart’s Luxus Screenwall frame to go with my screen. The Luxus Screenwall is constructed out 1.5″ extruded aluminum and is quite easy to put together and the sceen is simply snapped on to the frame. The frame of the Lexus Screenwall also includes what they call “WeLux Applique Finish” which is pretty much a black frame that surrounds the screen and absorbs any overscan, it does a remarkably good job of it too.

Well, I was quite excited once I got the frame all together and the screen attached to see how good it looked and to compare it to my old blackout cloth screen. Within the first 30 seconds I knew I had made the right decision, the difference was astonishing. The colors were much more vibrant, the picture was brighter and for lack of a better term the picture just had a lot more pop. When I showed my wife the results she couldn’t believe what a difference it was either I remember her making some comment along the lines of “I can’t believe we have been missing out on this for so long”.

We have had the screen for a few years now and it’s just as good today as it was the day we bought it. If anything should ever happen to it I will most likely replace it with the same exact screen, it’s just that good. I couldn’t be happier with my StudioTek 130 screen.
