Dish Network Satellite TV ViP622 DVR

We can’t get cable yet where I live so I have to go with Satellite. Not a big deal because I really like satellite. We have have the Dish Network as our satellite TV provider and have for years. They have been really good for us offering us plenty of channels and the service has been top notch. Not too long ago we picked up one of their newer models, the ViP622 DVR which allows us to record programs in HD.

The ViP622 DVR is one hell of a machine. You can record up to three shows simultaneously which is a great feature. My wife and I watch a bit too much TV and being able to record three things at once has kept us from missing something on more than one occasion. The interface on the ViP622 DVR is highly customizable which is very cool. The Vip622 also allows you connect with Dish Network’s On Demand system which is something both my wife and I love. It’s nice being able to just turn on the TV, scroll through the movies that are available and hit a button and start watching. The image quality on the ViP622 is excellent, especially on the HDTV channels. The only real complain I have with the ViP622 is the price but thankfully even that wasn’t too bad.

The best feature by far of the Vip622 DVR is easily the ability to record HDTV channels. It’s amazing being able to record shows now in all the HD glory, long gone are the days of crappy VHS recordings, with HDTV DVR here I no longer even have a VCR hooked up to my system. The ViP622 can record around 30 hours of HDTV material, I wish this number was bigger, but 30 hours is still a lot of space, enough to record an entire season of your favorite TV show. Having the HDTV DVR has changed the way that we watch TV. We no longer feel we have to be home by 8:00 on Thursday nights, we can go about our lives as we want and watch TV when we want. We are even finding ourselves not watching shows at their original air time purely so we can watch them later and skip the commercials, isn’t it amazing how many commercials are there these days? If we wait a couple weeks before catching up on a favorite show we can watch two episodes of an hour long show in about an hour and a half, saving us a full half hour.

If cable ever becomes available in our area we may make the switch but for now the Dish Network with the ViP622 DVR is serving us greatly. It’s a very nice unit and we are very happy with it.
