Panasonic DVD-RP91

I have had my Panasonic DVD-RP91 for years now and it has never let me down and I still consider it one of the great DVD players. The RP-91 has been my only DVD player since I bought it and I also use it to play my small collection of DVD audio discs.

The RP-91 is a fairly old player now so it may be lacking some of the newest bells and whistles but for me it has all the important ones. It’s of course a progressive scan model, it has plenty of video outputs only lacking the more modern DVI and HDMI, it has plenty of audio outputs as well. It has both optical and coaxial digital outs and since the RP-91 is also a DVD-Audio player it also has complete set of 5.1 outs.

I used the Rp-91 for a while before I got my scaler and it put out a very respectable picture on my Barco 808S. The RP-91 also did a great job of scaling up non anamorphic DVD’s, in fact it does a remarkable job of doing it. Once I added the scaler to my rig the picture quality really increased. The Panasonic DVD-RP91 puts out a beautiful picture, colors are bright and bold, blacks are inky dark, the picture is sharp with virtually no artifacts.

It will be a sad day when my RP-91 finally dies, it has served me well for many years and I hope it serves me for many more. It’s a great DVD player.
